Our Projects

This is the first in a series of blog posts we’re going to do about our own projects. All of us at Modurstang have modified vehicles on the road or track or sometimes both.

As I’m writing it (Brad), I’m going to start with a bit about my latest purchase, My Japanese spec 1997 4.6 GT Mustang SN95.

My SN posing outside the workshop

Obviously working at Modurstang I couldnt be without a Mustang or at least some big V8, preferably American and its been a few years since my last V8. This came up for sale a few weeks earlier and I missed out on it, I saw the facebook ad while having a pint and walked home via the chip shop, when I got home it had already sold. Then a couple of weeks later the new owner got in touch, it wasnt really for them and would I be interested. It was the right sort of money so of course!

The SN taking a break outside my local pub on its way home.

While looking pristine and it has clearly been loved it has a few faults, first on the list to rectify as its an MOT failure is the ABS light being on. By the looks of it the previous owner has been chasing a brake fault as a lot of the brake sysem looks new. My best guess is that the new brake lines that have been made up to link the Master cylinder to the ABS pump are the wrong size. As the rest of the existing brake pipes look a bit grotty I’ve got a comlete set of brake pipes on order thanks to Nemesis UK.

Plans

Once the sensible repairs are sorted I have a few plans. The car came with a pile of fancy parts like, control arms, high performance coils with leads and some dress up parts. I’ll probably fit some of these, I’ve made enquires about Pi heads, these are the heads fitted to the later models and increase the performance from the fairly asthmatic 200 and a bit to a more sensible 280ish horse power, or so people claim.

The handling is a bit wallowy and at any sort of pace on a country road it gets a bit floaty so I think a set of coil over suspension will be in order. We fit Pedders coil overs to loads of customers cars here and I know the difference they make and its conviced me that I need some too!

Being the Japanese spec it has the extra arch trims and the current wheels, even with spacers look a bit narrow. I’m trying to justify some wheels to myself, if anyone has some 18x9 front 18x10 rear deep dish Bullit wheels or similar for an SN then you might have a buyer!

I’m not sure what the next personal project will be, it depends who I can get to write a bit next!
